MISSION AND PURPOSE
Windows of Strength, Limited, is dedicated to providing assistance
with non-medical costs not covered
through insurance, government programs or other funding
to organ transplant recipients and their caregivers.
THE JOURNEY OF A TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT
A transplant recipient faces a journey throughout the transplant process.
This journey is composed of endurance and strength,
highs, lows, sadness, happiness, life reflection and future hope.
Organ donation is a life giving gift provided by another individual’s love and caring wish.
Through this unconditional gift, an organ recipient has found a “window of strength.”
The journey doesn’t end once a recipient has received their organ
and is released from the hospital.
They continue to be under post surgery care
and must continue with appointments, rehabilitation and testing.
Many times the surgery has to take place outside of the hometown
requiring the recipient and their caregiver to stay
within the vicinity of the transplant clinic.
Recipients and caregivers face costs for lodging,
as well as gas, fare for transportation, air fare, additional luggage fees and meals.
Often times, family members must take unpaid leave
and possible child care may be required.
As you can see, during this time, recipients and caregivers are faced with many “non-medical” costs
that are paid out of their own pocket.
The majority of the costs are not covered by insurance,
government programs and other funding.
These non-medical costs can add up quickly.
Windows of Strength, Limited, has been established in efforts to help alleviate
the financial burden faced by the recipient and their caregiver
to assist with non-medical costs such as:
Food/grocery/meals
Housing for recipient and caregiver
Telephone fees to the transplant clinic
Transportation to and from the transplant clinic
Gasoline costs
Parking fees for visits to the transplant clinic
Transplant recipients and their caregivers should not be faced with unpreventable financial costs
due to circumstances beyond their control.
